The water coming to you will be slow and you will not be able to enjoy the lovely shower. You can get the fast flow rate you want by removing the restrictor present in the head of the shower.

It is actually responsible for the flow of water and it keeps the speed at a limit. So if you get rid of it. There will be no blocking of aqua and you can have the desired rate.

Methods of removal according to type:

Now you know the reason to remove it. Let’s see the type and then the suitable method for it.

1. Embedded type

First, you need to find the bent pipe as well as the connector nut. You will notice it sticking out of the wall. Cover them with something like a rag so that they don’t get damaged.

Keep the pipe from moving with one wrench while using the other to loosen the connector nut. Remove the showerhead when it is loosened enough.

Now you need to locate the washer. Take off the washer and the mesh filter before you can see the restrictor. You can take out the washer with a needle-nose plier. With palms, tap the head to remove the screen carefully.

You will see a plastic disk. You need to pull it out, as that is the restrictor. Now put the screen back and tighten the washer in its place. Use tape in nuts and close the whole thing.

2. Handheld type

handheld type

In this type, the location of the restrictor depends on the brand. It can be located in different areas. But here we will remove it from the head.

So, locate it by using the user’s guide or the manual that is given with it. Protect the connector rug with a cloth or something that is if the showerhead is at the bottom of the handle.

Now hold the nut and rotate it in a counterclockwise direction using a plier. The handle will come out.

Take the washer and the screen carefully using a plier. Now, using a flat screwdriver, take the restrictor out.

If the restrictor is inside the holder. Then protect the shower and the connector. Hold the pipes using the arms and hold the nut using the pliers. Now rotate in a clockwise direction. The holder will drop from the arm if you keep doing it.

3. Waterpik type

This type also has a restrictor present in it. It might cause the pressure to become slow. You might say that there is an interruption in the aqua coming from it.

Wrap the showerhead with a towel so that it doesn’t get scratch marks. With a wrench remove it from the wall. Look for the washer that is present between the head and the arm.

You will notice that there is a hole in the nozzle. Rotate it until it is loose. Then lift it up and take the restrictor out.

Use plumber tapes to wrap around the arm. It will protect it in case of corrosion. Reattach the head to the pipe and check it out for pressure.

4. Moen type

If you are using this type. You can also remove any restrictions that might be present in it.

Wrap it up like in the above types. And then, using a wrench, tighten the jaws. Rotate the connector with one hand while using the other hand to keep the connector steady.

Use your hand to remove the O-shaped gasket for its safety. Then gently remove the screen. You can use your palm to shake it a bit. Now remove the restrictor as you see it. lift it up. It is usually in different colors, so don’t get confused.

Reassemble the whole after you are down removing. Put it back in its proper place and check the rate after you turn it on.
