Hats with frayed corners or edges should be washed by hand. You can use the hat shaper to retain its proper shape.

First step

At first, make sure that the dishwasher is not having any food residue as it can stain the hat. Now put the cap on the rack of dishwasher. Make sure it is placed away from the heating element.

Try to put the hat in the hat frame. If you are not using the hat frame, put a prong in the middle of the hat so it should not get burnt.

Because the hat has any plastic material it will melt if you directly place it on the bottom of the dishwasher rack.

Next step

In the next step, put Borax or any non-bleaching cleaner in the detergent compartment. Do not use any dish detergent having lemon as it can also change the color of the hat.

Now close the dishwasher for further process. Do not use any laundry detergent in the dishwasher. Now set the dishwasher on. Change the settings of the dishwasher to delicate wash if it has one.

When you will start the dishwasher, try to run the shortest wash cycle and use cold water. Don’t heat dry the hats as it will prevent the creases of your hats.

Now take the hats out of the dishwasher before any heat drying has been started. Many dishwashers will indicate the heat cycle has started with light or display.

Heat drying can melt and shrink the hats and take all the creases out.

To dry the hat, put the hat on the hat frame so its shape remains the same, and put it on the shelf for a few hours until it dries completely.

If you do not have a hat frame put a jar in the middle of the hat to retain its shape and let it be there until it dries completely.
