Amana dryer not heating

There can be some severe causes behind the dryer’s heating, but that doesn’t mean you have to discard the device. Without professional or expert help, you can quickly eliminate the issue following these simple and more accessible fixes.

Destroyed Igniter

The lighter’s heat ignites the gas in the burner unit. The gas does not ignite, and the dryer does not heat up if the lighter does not work.

You can use a multimeter to inspect the continuity in the detonator to see if it has burned out. Replace the lighter if it has lost its continuity.

Flame sensor can be a culpritamana flame sensor

The flame sensor in a gas dryer detects the heat emitted by the flame. Your dryer won’t heat up if the flame sensor fails.

Make sure the lights and thermal fuse aren’t broken before checking the flame sensor.

Test the continuity of the flame sensor at room temperature with a multimeter to see if it’s defective.

Replace the flame sensor if it has no continuity at room temperature.

Worn out heating elementamana worn out heating element

Before entering the dryer, the air is heated by the heating element. The heating element can wear out over time, preventing the dryer from heating up.

You can check for continuity with the help of a multimeter to see if the heater has burned out. Replace the heating element if it does not have continuity.

Disturbed power source

There could be a problem with the incoming power supply if your dryer does not heat up. Two 120 volts AC (240 volts) legs are required for electric dryers.

It’s not uncommon for only one fuse or switches to blow, indicating that the dryer is operational but not heating. It would help if you used a multimeter to analyze the fuse box or switch or measure the socket’s voltage.

Defective cycling thermostat

The bicycle thermostat regulates the air temperature by turning on and off the heat. You will notice the dryer to get heat up when the bicycle thermostat is broken.

This is, however, a rare occurrence. Check all defective parts more frequently before replacing the bicycle thermostat. After ensuring that all other components are in working order, use a multimeter to check the thermostat for continuity.

Replace the thermostat if there is no continuity.

Is it worth replacing a heating element in a dryer?

If your dryer’s heating element burns out more than once within a year or two, the thermal fuse which is supposed to protect it, may be defective so it’s a good idea to replace it.

The temperature in the heating chamber may also be too high, and that may indicate poor venting.

How long does a dryer heating element usually last?

The life of the dryer heating element is between 8 and 18 years if you take proper care of them. If not, they’ll fall apart faster than the average lifespan.

Conclusion

These issues are not much challenging to solve, so you can easily find the best possible troubleshooting. Detecting the reason behind any problem is a necessary step in any troubleshooting, without which it is nearly impossible.
