But changing the orifice was the tricky thing. I didn’t know how to change the orifice, so I looked on the internet and found ways to change the orifice, and even the reason to change the orifice was there. I was able to change the orifice.
Change Orifice From Natural Gas To Propane
Changing the orifice can help you change your heater’s fuel intake. You can use propane instead of natural gas by changing the orifice.
You can also convert propane to natural gas through the orifice. The steps of changing the orifice are simple. There is only a slight difference between the orifice.
The hole of the orifice of propane and gas is different from each other. One has a slightly larger hole as compared to the other as the pressure of the propane and has should be different. If a different orifice is not used, there can be an explosion.
Appliance checking
Converting natural gas and getting propane from your appliance or to your appliance is something you can choose to do, but there is a problem. Most appliances may be able to be used with different fuels, like propane, but not all appliances can hold the same fuel.
Even though propane is a fuel like natural gas and is widely used in appliances that ate for cooking and producing heat and fire, the result is not the same.
The chemical composition and density of both gases are different. The densities change their pressure, and so the appliances suit the pressure and work. But not all appliances can suit the gas pressure of propane or the slow pressure of methane.
So check if your appliance is actually suitable for the change of orifice or not. Your appliance’s guide will have some detail about it. You can ask a professional too.
Items required
There are no particular items that are required for the change of the orifice or the conversion of the orifice. The only you need is the new orifice you want to change. You may have the orifice in the conversion kit. You may have a conversion kit.
Most of the devices that can be converted come with the conversion kit, so you can switch the fuel at any time. The old ones may not have a kit, so you will need to purchase a conversion kit that is separately sold. The conversion kit can be easily bought.
Removing natural gas
Removing the natural gas doesn’t mean that you should remove the gas pipe and let the gas flow in the house and cause an explosion. You need to turn the gas off and then remove the gas source from your appliance.
The most common thing that is converted to change the fuel is the stove. You need to disconnect the stove gas so that you can begin the conversion.
Though don’t remove the gas from a working stove. Turn the stove off first. They turn the gas off from behind the stove or the place to which the stove is connected and receives gas from.
You can stop the main gas supply as well. After that, remove the pipe connected to the stove and the pipe from the main line as well. You can remove the pipe easily just by pulling it off. Read more below!
Removing the burner
The burner of the natural gas is installed in your appliance, so you need to remove the burner. Only by removing the burner can you reach the orifice. The removal of the burner depends on your appliance. There may be screws that are keeping the burner.
There may not be any screws keeping the burner attached to the stove. You can just remove the burning by taking it off the stove very easily.
There are a number of burners, like top and side burners, so you need to change the burners all by yourself. The number of burnt depends on your appliance, so you need to remove them.
Pilot light
The conversion of the orifice requires the change of the pilot light of the orifice. There is a pilot nut that is attached to the pilot tube.
The nut is for attaching the tube to the pilot assembly. Remove the pilot nut and then remove the pilot tube as well. The orifice will come off, or it may fall out. Don’t let the orifice break.
After the orifice falls out, you can change the orifice. You can put the orifice that is for propane. Now that the propane orifice is in its place, you can put the pilot tube and attach the pilot tube back to the burner. Use the pilot nut to attach them. Gas regulator
The gas regulator needs to be replaced as well. The gas regulator or the pressure regulator is present at the back of the stove. You will see that it is the one defined for proper, or rather make sure you are checking the propane one. There is a symbol or arrow near the regulator or at the bottom.
The arrow at the bottom is for the direction of the gas. The arrow should be towards the equipment of the stove. Place the regulator in its place. Be sure that you didn’t set the wrong direction of the propane. Read more below!
Connecting back
Now that the orifice has been replaced, you can put all the gas connections back. Attach one side of the propane pipe to the stove or the orifice of the stove and the other side of the pipe to the source of the propane. Make sure that the pipes are well connected and are not loose.
Turn the gas from behind on and then turn the gas from the stove on as well. Light the stove up and see if the gas pressure is correct and if the orifice has been correctly installed. You can use the stove if it has been done.
Checking for leaks
This is an important step, and you need to check the leaks for any installation. You should check the stove and see if it is properly attached to the stove. The source and pipe connection should be checked as well. There can be leaks in the pipe too.
You can check the leaks through smell. If you smell rotten eggs, then you may have leaks, as propane smells like rotten eggs.
Check if the orifice was loose. Change the pipe and secure the propane connection, and cook or heat whatever you want with the propane stove.
